Why an Endowment? Following the recent death of my dear wife, my daughter Candice came to me with a wonderful idea…. Create an endowment through the Community Foundation of Abilene. The endowment is called “The Karen Adair Price Registered Nurse (RN) Scholarship Fund”. This endowment helps provide financial assistance to college students majoring in a health science nursing degree program. This endowment also continues Karen’s legacy to have provided professional treatment and outstanding care to her patients.
Karen’s nursing career included the hospital Emergency Room Critical Care, she was an Oncology Certified RN for Chemotherapy and later Radiation Oncology. Karen was a member and past two-time president of the Oncology Nursing Society.
Karen and I were married for more than 56 years – we were high school sweet-hearts in the beginning. We worked as a team throughout our wonderful years together, having three daughters, supported each other in college, with a nursing career, an Air Force career and all the “rest” which made for a great marriage. I am truly blessed.
My daughter, Candice, and I know Karen would be very pleased with her working legacy, and as a consequence, more future nurses will be available to care for those in need. This endowment also “gives back” to our community a sense of commitment and fellowship. God bless all of our “Front Line Heroes”!
