Giving Guide

The Foundation’s online grant catalog, Community Connections, gives everyone an opportunity to support current charitable needs in our community!

This giving guide is a summary of all proposals we receive each community grant cycle from nonprofit organizations in our community.

We share Community Connections with our fundholders by mail and online. Donors are invited to make grants in support of the proposals that they are most passionate about.

The giving guide also serves as a resource to inform our community about local needs.

HOW IT WORKS

Whenever a community grant cycle is open and applications have been reviewed and approved, the giving guide "Community Connections" becomes available (usually in mid-March and mid-September).

A print version of the catalog is mailed to fundholders, an online version is also available through the online portal.

The catalog includes each nonprofit eligible within that particular grant cycle, including a brief summary of the project for which the organization is seeking funding.

Support a cause

You can support any of the organizations by viewing the catalog and making an online donation of any amount to the causes that interest you.

Or, if you are a donor-advised fundholder, you can recommend a grant from your fund to any of the projects using your personalized donor login to access the online portal

All donations will first go to the Community Foundation of Abilene. Once the online grant catalog closes and grant decisions have been finalized, the Foundation will present a final grant to the nonprofit applicant.

AWARDING FUNDS TO NONPROFIT

Grant funding comes from three primary sources:

  1. Revenue from CFA's unrestricted endowment funds - Donors who establish unrestricted funds allow a CFA grant committee to determine how to grant the fund's revenue to meet current community needs.
  2. CFA donor-advised fundholders - Donor-advised funds give donors the flexibility to recommend grants from their fund's revenue throughout the year. These donors can also contribute grants during CFA's grant cycles.
  3. General donations - Anyone can make a donation to support a nonprofit project via the grant catalog. 100% of your donation will be granted to the nonprofit you choose.

The final grant includes funds allocated by a grant committee, donor-advised fund contributions, and general donations.

This way, everyone in the community can be involved in boosting grant dollars for local causes!
