Future Fund members get first look at "The Roc"

September 13, 2025

Future Fund is a membership-supported endowment fund established at the Community Foundation of Abilene. Each year, members are invited to special events and volunteer opportunities.

On September 11, members and their guests attended an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of The Roc, Abilene Youth Sport Authority (AYSA)’s new soccer complex. This state-of-the-art facility is a game changer for Abilene and the Big Country, housing 10 full-sized soccer fields and a clubhouse. The Roc opens to the public on September 27.

Our culture is a little bit different because we do have a Christian mindset behind everything that we do. And so part of that we hope will allow the kids not just to have a good sports experience, but also a good life experience.

Brandon Osborne

AYSA Executive Director

In a surprise announcement, Future Fund members and Foundation donors awarded a $3,000 grant to Abilene Youth Sports Authority (AYSA) during the event, supporting student scholarships through the Future Fund endowment.

Osborne said that the grant would support approximately 25-30 children on their growing waitlist, which currently exceeds 60 children.

To add to the excitement, an anonymous donor later contributed an additional $1,500 to provide scholarships for 15-20 more children.

This grant to AYSA was made possible by Future Fund members, the Future Fund endowment, and CFA donors and friends.

Membership dues are pooled into the Future Fund endowment, which helps the fund grow. This helps the fund make an even bigger difference as it grows over time. Grants are awarded each year to causes that benefit children in our community.

This year marks 30 years of grantmaking impact supported by Future Fund members. Since its founding in 1995, the Future Fund's grant cycles and endowment have provided more than $1.6 million to support these youth-serving organizations.
