CFA Awards $297k during spring grant cycle

 The Community Foundation of Abilene awarded more than $297,000 in grants during our spring discretionary grant cycle. This is in addition to the $173k awarded to nonprofits this spring from CFA's Support Abilene campaign to help nonprofits affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

Discretionary grant cycles are open to any nonprofit serving the Abilene area. These grants come from CFA's unrestricted funds.

A grant committee made up of CFA board members and community volunteers determines how to allocate these funds. The spring grantees and their projects are listed below.

Abilene Youth Sports Authority – Support for youth sport scholarship program

Alliance for Women and Children – Support for Day Camp programs and scholarships for after-school program

American Red Cross – Installation of smoke alarms for Meals on Wheels (Abilene) clients

BCFS Abilene Transition Center – Funds to purchase bedroom furnishings for the new “Our House” for women

Cancer Services Network – Assistance for cancer patients’ prescription needs

City of Abilene, Community Services – Scholarships for the City of Abilene recreation division camps

Disability in Action – Support for Transportation Works program

Houses for Healing – Funds to develop land and construct laundry/storage facility for the Houses for Healing expansion

King David’s Kids – Support for peer network for families with special needs children

McMurry University – Support for Friendship Closet expansion

Meals on Wheels Plus, Inc. – Meals for waiting list clients

Noah Project – Funding to purchase ice machine, lawn mower, and parking lot speed humps for the new expansion wing

Pathways Youth & Family Services – Funds to ease licensing expenses for families in foster care system

Regional Victim Crisis Center – Support for counseling services for crime victims

Safe Families for Children – Program support to serve families in crisis

Taylor Jones Humane Society – Support for veterinary care for shelter animals

Texas State Technical College Foundation – Support for Abilene scholarships

The Salvation Army of Abilene – Funds to support the Feeding Program and the purchase/renovation of additional shelter space

West Texas Regional Foundation – Funding for a youth homeless coordinator to lead local efforts
