Beloved CFA Operations Director Retires After 15 Years

December 14, 2018

They say if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. If that's true, then it may very well be that Nita Slaton hasn't worked a day in the last 15 years.

She has of course worked, and worked hard at that, and her deep love for the Community Foundation of Abilene has always been what drives her.

"Nita is one of the most loyal and hardest-working people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working alongside," said CFA President/CEO Katie Alford. "She has served the Community Foundation of Abilene for the past 15 years and will be deeply missed. Serving as Scholarship Director for most of her tenure here, she has impacted the lives of many students who have received scholarships through us. She has also impacted the lives of donors she worked with over the past 15 years. We wish her the best and congratulate her as she retires. She will be missed, but definitely never forgotten!"

Nita most recently served as Operations Director and is retiring December 14, 2018.

Perhaps her greatest role, however, was one that didn't come with an official title. You know how there's always that one person in the office who encourages the people around her; who is always there for you when you need guidance; who will pick you up when you need it most? That's Nita.

"Nita has invested so much of herself into the CFA," said CFA Grants Director Michelle Parrish. "From her detailed processes that keep us all organized, to her fantastic laugh you can hear up and down the halls, to her gentle encouragement when we need a lift, she will be missed."

Prior to her time at the foundation, Nita spent 32 years working at Tippet & Gee in Abilene and is a graduate of Abilene High School.

Nita's immeasurable contributions to Abilene have made, and continue to make, this community more vibrant. She has been a blessing to everyone who has had the privilege of working alongside her and will truly be missed by the CFA family.

We wish you a fulfilling retirement, Nita! Thank you for your dedication and love.
