Leo and Piney Scott Scholarship

The Scott’s believe in education and active community involvement. Born February 12, 1933 in Milan County, TX., Leo notably served as the first black city councilman. He was a retired pharmacist and former senior Pastor of the New Light Baptist Church. Rev. Scott served on numerous boards and actively worked to make Abilene a great community for everyone. Reverend Leo Scott died on December 28, 2009. Piney Parker Scott was born in Slaton, TX. A retired school teacher band counselor for 37 years, she received a B.S. from Texas Southern University and a M.Ed. from Hardin Simmons University. Piney was actively involved in the community where she served on numerous boards, organizations and community volunteering. She died June 24, 2017. Through the Leo and Piney Scott scholarship their memory will live on.
 


Eligibility

  • Successfully completed at least one year of education at a two or four-year accredited college/university. 
  • Have a 2.0 GPA.
  • Preference is given to an African American student from the Big Country area.
