Fire Relief Updates; March 21, 2022

March 21, 2022

The first of many grants from CFA's fire relief funds has gone out and is being used to provide immediate assistance to people who need it most.

These funds were established to give people a place to donate to support people and fire departments impacted by the devastating fires throughout the Big Country. All donations will be deployed as grants to nonprofits and churches serving people affected by the fires and to support volunteer fire departments fighting the fires.

CFA granted $10,000 Monday from the Eastland County Fire Relief Fund to the United Rescue Alliance (URA), a nonprofit organization leading coordinated relief efforts in Eastland County. The URA has crews in the Eastland area actively assessing needs. This initial $10k will provide $100 gift cards for fire victims to purchase essential, immediate needs such as food, clothing, and other urgently-needed items.

More grants will go out in the coming days as needs are identified. Our team is actively communicating with crews on the ground in the affected areas to determine where funds are needed most.

The relief funds -- one specifically for Eastland County, one serving Coleman County, and one serving the remaining communities in the Big Country region -- have raised a combined $153,000 as of late Monday afternoon. Some of these funds will continue to be granted in the coming days to meet immediate needs, and other funds will be used in the weeks following the fires to support the long-term rebuilding and recovery phase.

We will continue to provide updates as funds are being used. Thank you to everyone who has donated to support our local communities when they need it most!
