Nonprofits Awarded $301k in Grants During Fall Cycle

The Community Foundation of Abilene is awarding more than $301,000 to local nonprofit organizations during the fall discretionary grant cycle, supporting a range of projects to benefit the homeless, neglected children, education, and much more.  See the list of projects being funded below.

AARP Free Tax Help Abilene – Funding for 2 years of storage needs for program computers

Abilene Community Partners – Emergency assistance and advocacy for abused and neglected children of Taylor County

Abilene Hope Haven – Support for Bridge 2 Home project

Abilene Performing Arts Center – Scholarship Program for low-income children to participate in performing arts classes

Abilene Preservation League – Support for educational enhancements to Elks Center Ballroom

Abilene Regional Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Inc.  – Support for “Labor of Love” Pregnant/Postpartum Intervention Program

Adult Protective Services Partners – Support for direct client services (medication, medical equipment, dental treatment, home repairs) and supplies for Bridge Room to serve the elderly and adults with disabilities

Bethel UMC – Support for Bethel UMC Community Outreach Programs

Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star – Support for “Bigs in Blue” Mentoring Program

Big Country Area Health Education Center (AHEC) – Support for Community Health Worker Program

Big Country Court Appointed Special Advocates, Inc. – Capacity building and community impact through volunteer recruitment

Camp Able – Building total program capacity to ensure long-term sustainability

Day Nursery of Abilene – Childcare professional development and staff training

Disability in Action  – Support for Transportation Works program

Friends for Life  – Support for Independent Living and Quality of Life programs

Goodwill West Texas  – Support for Goodwill Career Center and mobile expansion

Harmony Family Services, Inc.  – Support to partially fund a bed for one year at the Harmony Family Emergency Shelter

Hispanic Leadership Council – Funding to purchase authentic Aguascalientes costumes

Historic Paramount Theatre – Support for the production of Legally Blond, Jr. to an audience of special needs children

Joseph Thomas Foundation – Support to provide medical necessities to medically-fragile children in Abilene

Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas – Wish granting in Taylor County

Meals on Wheels Plus, Inc. – Purchase laptop computers for case managers

National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature – Support for 2018 exhibitions

New Horizons (Audrey Grace House) – Support for Temporary Emergency Placement program at Audrey Grace House

Presbyterian Medical Care Mission – Support for Medical Clinic

Special Olympics Texas – Big Country – Support for Abilene programming

St. Mark’s Baby Room – Support for basic baby items

Texas Ramp Project – Wheelchair ramp building in Abilene for the elderly and disabled

The Grace Museum – Support for Arts Outreach Program

The Salvation Army of Abilene – Support for the feeding program

United Methodist Service Center and Food Pantries – To assist families/individuals, specifically the elderly and/or disabled, with rent, utilities and prescriptions

Young Audiences of Abilene – Program support for “Arts in Education” school performance
