When we think about people who have had a deep love for Abilene and a profound desire to make their community better, one of the names that comes to mind is Jean Hays.
Jean passed away in 2018, but before she passed, she wanted to make sure that her community was taken care of. She left a total of $9 million to six area nonprofits, including the Community Foundation of Abilene. Earlier this year, her brother, Frank Cahill, arranged for these nonprofits to meet at the community foundation so he could present each organization with a check for $1.5 million.
This video features some of the benefiting nonprofits talking about Jean's legacy.
