Grants.

The Community Foundation of Abilene is committed to improving participation in philanthropy and increasing the amount of financial support reaching charitable causes. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we offer multiple grant opportunities to local nonprofit organizations that serve people in Abilene and the surrounding area.

Some funds in our competitive grant program are unrestricted and are awarded to recipients in any field of interest, while others are restricted to specific purposes. We also have donor-designated funds and donor-advised funds that go to specific agencies; these are not part of competitive grant cycles.

Together, these funds enable the Foundation to respond to a wide variety of organizations and programs that reflect the diverse charitable interests of our community.

Agency endowment funds.

In addition to providing grant funding, the Foundation gives local nonprofit organizations a safe, convenient way to protect their charitable dollars and ensure a source of annual support for their programs and operations.

Endowment funds are most successful and yield the most investment potential the larger the amount. By pooling your funds with the Foundation’s endowment, you’ll enjoy the benefits of a diverse investment portfolio and low investment fees that typically come only with very large funds.

Establishing an endowment fund at the Foundation:

  • Provides long-term support for your nonprofit organization.
  • Builds your endowment simply and efficiently.
  • Creates sustainability.
  • Frees your staff and volunteers to concentrate on your mission—instead of your investments.

An agency endowment fund may be established with a minimum contribution of $10,000 that can be built up over time. Once you meet the minimum contribution, you and your donors can continue to add any amount to the fund at any time, receiving tax benefits with each new gift.

Your donors can be sure that the endowment fund’s principal won’t be touched and will grow over time, providing a source of lasting support. They may also leave a bequest through the Foundation to benefit your organization and create a personal legacy.
